LAST CONTEST
A first-half goal by the Providence Friars off a corner kick was enough to hold off the Pirates' flurry of opportunities in the second half in a 1-0 defeat Friday night at Chapey Field in Rhode Island. The Pirates struggled to register a shot in the opening 45 minutes and had their first chance to score in the middle of the second half.  In the 63rd minute, senior graduate transfer Sean Macleod (Troon, Scotland) took a shot from the top of the box, but Providence keeper, Austin Aviza, tipped the ball away.
Â
Seton Hall's best chance to equalize came late in the 80th minute. Macleod struck again, receiving a pass and shaking off his defender.  He had a good look from 20 yards out, but Aviza, dove to his left and was able to poke the ball away.

SCOUTING NJIT
Seton Hall is 2-1 against NJIT since 2012 after going 4-20 against the Highlanders from 1959-83. The Pirates have won the last two matchups by a combined four goals. Most recently, the Pirates edged the Highlanders with a goal in the 53rd minute of the second half on Oct. 16, 2018.
Â
The Highlanders are coming off a 2018 season, which featured a 6-11 final record and a 1-5 ASUN Conference record.  This season, the NJIT squad features 11 newcomers and has compiled a 2-2-3 record thus far. Both of the Highlanders' wins have come via shutout, while both losses were by just one goal. NJIT has outscored its opponents so far this season, 14-8.
