Sager, Fouratt Share Nittany Lion Invitational Title
9/22/2019 3:13:00 PM | Women's Golf
STATE COLLEGE, PA. – Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.), Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.) and High Point's Samantha Vodry all tied as individual champions of the 2019 Nittany Lion Invitational. Sager and Fouratt's efforts lifted the Seton Hall women's golf team to a third place team finish.
Â
Sager was dominant all tournament and was 5-under-par through the event's first two rounds. On Sunday, she fired a 3-over-par, 75, to finish tied for first with a 2-under-par, 69-70-75-214. It's Sager's first-ever collegiate victory, and sets a new career-best for the senior.
Â
Fouratt caught Sager, not because of poor Sager play, but because of her exceptional final round. The sophomore tied Seton Hall's par-72 single-round record with a 4-under-par, 68, on Sunday. Fouratt had only one blemish on an otherwise sparkling round three, a bogey on the par-4, No. 13 hole. She had five birdies and 12 pars to pull even with Sager and Vodry to claim a share of her first individual title.
Â
With their 214 scores for the tournament, Sager and Fouratt have set a new three-round, par-72 record low for Seton Hall. The previous record was a 216 set by Ali Kruse at the Cincinnati Spring Invitational in 2014.
Â
Collectively, the Pirates, coming off a record-breaking second round, shot a 7-over-par, 295, in round three. Coupled with a strong finish by host Penn State, and The Hall slipped from second to a third-place finish. For the three-round event, the Pirates were 14-over-par with a 298-285-295-878, and finish 10 strokes behind the team champion, Pennsylvania. Penn State finished second, two strokes ahead of The Hall. Seton Hall's lone BIG EAST competition, Georgetown, finished at 74-over-par.
Â
Senior Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.), who entered the day in second place, shot a 4-over-par, 76, in round three. Still, her three-day effort resulted in a career-best 1-over-par, 72-69-76-217. Staudt tied for fifth place overall, her second career top-5 finish.
Â
Senior Carolina Ronchel Salas (Huelva, Spain.) shot a 5-over-par, 77, on Sunday. For the tournament, Ronchel Salas was tied for 17th place with an 8-over-par, 76-71-77-224.
Â
Senior Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) had only one birdie in round three, but she used 13 pars to fuel a 3-over-par, 75. For the event, she finished two strokes behind Ronchel Salas with a 10-over-par, 79-72-75-226.
Â
Rounding out The Hall's scoring is junior Mia Kness (Venetia, Pa.). Kness tallied a 5-over-par, 77, on Sunday to finish the tournament with a 16-over-par, 79-76-77-232.
