BALTIMORE, Md. – Cassy Harrigan (Beaverton, Ore.) scored a first half goal to give the Seton Hall women's soccer team (0-1) an early lead, but the Pirates fell in overtime at Loyola (1-0) on Sunday afternoon by a score of 2-1. The contest marked the 2019 season opener for The Hall.
How it Happened
In The Hall's first match under new head coach Ciara Crinion, Harrigan broke an early stalemate with a terrific goal off a volley in the 29th minute. The lead proved to be short-lived when Loyola found an equalizer off the foot of Hannah Hoefs in the 39th minute.
Neither side could break through in the second half, with each trading quality looks and large chunks of possessions. Seton Hall's best second half chance came in the 74th minute when Laura Hooper (Watford, England) broke in free on goal for a shot that was deflected wide. The Hall was unable to convert on the ensuing corner.
In extra time, LU's Sarah Bayer made a terrific run into the box and snuck past a Pirate defender before rifling a shot cross-box into the bottom right corner of the cage to win it for the home side.
