
Pirates Downed at No. 18 Villanova

Seton Hall (12-8, 3-5 BIG EAST) suffered its fourth straight defeat while Villanova (16-4, 7-0 BIG EAST) won its eighth straight game.
Today, Seton Hall's coaching staff wore sneakers in support of the NABC's Coaches vs. Cancer initiative and wore gold laces to honor Lacey Holsworth, an 8-year old basketball fan who lost her battle with cancer.

Turning Point
Turnovers plagued the Pirates, who committed six of them in their first 10 possessions. The Pirates hung in with the Wildcats despite the issues handling the ball, and Cale tied the game at 12-12 with his second of four three-pointers on the day. However, Villanova then went on an 18-5 run as The Hall went cold and took a 30-20 lead into the break.
Villanova then went on a 23-6 run to open the second half, burying six three-pointers in the first 6:30 to push the game out of reach.
Inside the Numbers
- Seton Hall shot 18-for-52 from the field (34.6 percent), 7-for-23 from three (30.4 percent) and 9-for-14 at the free throw line (64.3 percent). Villanova shot 28-for-58 from the field (48.3 percent), 17-for-42 from three (40.5 percent) and 7-for-13 at the free throw line (53.8 percent).
- Seton Hall outscored Villanova in the paint, 22-16, but was out-rebounded 36-33.
- Cale finished with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting overall and 4-of-6 from the three-point line. He also had six rebounds. Cale has now made nine of his last 13 attempts from downtown.
- Sophomore Shavar Reynolds (Manchester, N.J.) delivered eight points and blocked his first career shot.
- Senior Michael Nzei (Makurdi, Nigeria) had seven points.
- The Pirates scored a season-low 20 points in the first half and a season-low 52 points for the game.
News & Notes
- Seton Hall is now 41-75 all-time against Villanova, and the Wildcats are the team's most frequent opponent.
- The Pirates drop to 1-2 against Associated Press ranked teams this season. Since 2016, they are 11-15 in such games.
