You can twist numbers any way you like them. You see what you want to see.Â
We choose to rely on larger sample sizes.Â
Yes, the Pirates have struggled with turnovers of late. It doomed them in the first meeting with Providence, when 22 giveaways resulted in 23 Friars points. But before you go crushing the team's guards, can we look back and realize that in 14 of the team's 20 games this season, the Pirates have committed 14 or fewer turnovers?Â
Quincy McKnight only committed eight turnovers in his first 200 minutes of action. He started conference play with just four turnovers in his first 82 minutes. Anthony Nelson averages only one turnover every 12.3 minutes played and has just nine over the last 14 games played. Myles Cale only has 10 turnovers in 241 minutes of BIG EAST play.Â
Pay attention to the larger sample sizes. It matters.
The Pirates know they cannot repeat recent mistakes in Wednesday's game with the Friars. They will need to handle the ball with care, generate offense, rebound and get back on defense to defend a Friars squad that is much improved from early January.Â
Wednesday's game is a regional television broadcast on FOX Sports Networks, carried by YES Network in the metropolitan area with Brian Custer and Jim Spanarkel on the call. The mainstays Gary Cohen and Dave Popkin will have the radio call on WMCA 570 AM, simulcast on Sirius 119, XM 202 and the Pirate Sports Network.

Three Things to Know About Wednesday's Home Game vs. Providence
 1. Must Guard an Improving Perimeter Shooting Team
In seven conference games this season, Providence is shooting only 27.6 percent from three-point range. It's enough to say, "hey maybe we guard penetration and leave space on the perimeter" but it's misleading because the Friars were without freshman sensation AJ Reeves for the first six games. He came back to action last Sunday against DePaul and buried three of six attempts from deep and is shooting 46 percent from there in 11 games this season. Of course, the Friars only made four threes total in the game, but Reeves' presence will now demand a little more respect on the three-point line.Â
Â
2. Take Advantage of Size
The Pirates out-rebounded Providence in the first matchup and that was with Sandro Mamukelashvili playing only 18 minutes due to foul trouble and Romaro Gill not playing at all. The Hall needs to rebound the basketball, limit Providence's second chances and create second opportunities of its own.
Â
3. It's All About Winning Home Games
The Pirates dropped a home game last time out, and they can't afford to drop more. Winning Wednesday will protect the home court advantage and continue a great run the Pirates have had at Prudential Center. They are 42-11 in their last 53 games there (.792), which dates back to the start of the 2015-16 season.
