
Pirates Sweep Providence for Yaeger's 100th Win

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Dominique Mason (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) had double-doubles as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team swept Providence, 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-14), for head coach Allison Yaeger's 100th career coaching victory.
Seton Hall improved to 2-2 in BIG EAST Conference play with the straight-set victory. Mason led the Pirates with 12 kills and 12 digs. Cvelbar had 13 assists and 11 digs.
SET 1:
Seton Hall had to rally in the first set, finding itself in a 12-5 hole to start the match. The Pirates methodically chipped away at the Providence lead, and a kill by Mason cut the deficit to 14-11 and prompted a Friars' timeout. Trailing 20-16, The Hall went on an 8-1 run, which featured six attack errors by Providence players, to enter set point, 24-21. A kill by Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) ended the set and gave The Hall a 25-22 victory.
SET 2:
The second set was the closest of the match, and featured eight ties. For the second straight set, the Pirates fell behind early, but battled back mid-way through the set. Trailing 13-10, The Hall went on an 8-3 run, and a block by Madison Salkowski (Cold Spring, Ky.) put it in front, 18-16, and prompted a Friars' timeout. With the score tied at 23, a kill by Mason put the Pirates in set point, and the ensuing kill by Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) gave them a 25-23 win.
SET 3:
The Pirates dominated the third set, and with the score tied at six, they went on a 14-3 run to take a commanding 20-9 advantage. Mason's 12th kill of the night gave The Hall a 25-14 victory and completed the three-set sweep.

The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday, October 4 when they host Georgetown at Walsh Gym. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
