Pirates Head to Towson Invitational This Weekend
3/24/2017 10:00:00 AM | Men's Golf
GRASONVILLE, MD. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will return to action on Saturday for the first of two rounds of action at the Towson Invitational, March 25-26.
Â
Tournament Details:
TOWSON INVITATIONAL
Host:Â Towson University
Location:Â Grasonville, Md.
Course:Â Prospect Bay Country Club
Course Vitals:Â Par-72, 6,530 yards
Dates:Â March 25-26, 2017
Â
The Course:
Prospect Bay Country Club, long known for excellent greens, has two distinct nines. The front is open and more affected by breezes off Eastern Bay. It is highlighted by the 4th hole, a 556 yard par five, which features a large two-tiered green and the 6th, a 400 yard par four, sporting out-of-bounds right and water on the left. The back nine is tree-lined, winding along the perimeter of Talisman Farm. The course is known for its strong finishing holes, considered by some to be as good as anything on the Eastern Shore. The 17th, a 428 yard par four, plays into the prevailing wind and demands an accurate tee shot in order to have a chance at par. It's followed up by our signature hole, the 590 yard par five 18th. The large, almost "island" green, is well-protected by four bunkers and water front and right. A par on the 18th is always a great way to finish the round.
Â
The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Towson, the large field includes 19 other schools:Â Bethune-Cookman, Bryant, Columbia, Cornell, Elon, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Indiana (Pa.), Lafayette, La Salle, Long Island University, Penn, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart, Saint Anselm, Stevenson, Trinity College, Maryland Eastern Shore and William & Mary.
Â
The Seton Hall Lineup:
Â
Â
Last Time Out:
Freshman Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) led the Seton Hall men's golf team with a 1-over-par, 73, in the final round of the 2017 Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate two weeks ago to help pace the Pirates to a second place team finish.
Â
Collectively, the Pirates finished second, 13 strokes behind the team champion, Richmond, which fired a 7-under-par, 281, in round three to surge to the lead. For the tournament, the Pirates finished at 20-over-par with a 293-289-302. There were no other BIG EAST schools in the field.
Â
Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines) was the top Pirate golfer for the duration of the tournament. The sophomore shot even-par for the three-round event with a 70-71-75-216. He placed fourth overall just four strokes behind the individual champion, Richmond's Keegan Hoff. It's Nagai's fourth top-10 finish in his career and his second top-5.
Â

The Pirates didn't play in this event last year, but did in 2015. Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) won the individual title, overcoming a two-stroke deficit in the final 18 holes. He won the event with a 1-over-par, 73-71-143, for the tournament, one stroke ahead of Arkansas' Nicolas Echavarria. Â
