9/3/2016 1:38:00 PM | Women's Cross Country
Lincroft, N.J. -Â Junior Christiana Rutkowski (Middletown, N.J.), who was unable to compete in 2015 due to injury, made a strong return to competition, leading all Seton Hall women's cross country runners in route to the team's second-place finish at the Monmouth XC Kick-Off held at Thompson Park Saturday morning. Rutkowski finished the 4K race in a time of 15:21.51, good for an 11th place finish.
In total, five Pirates finished in the race's top 25, just edging Lafayette for the runner-up finish by one point.
Despite not competing last season, Rutkowski nearly matched her 2014 time at the Monmouth race. Two years ago, she clocked in at 15:10.30. The last time she led the team was the 2014 Leopard XC Invitational 6K race, which she won.
Coming in just behind Rutkowski were junior Emily Johnson (Wildwood Crest, N.J.), who finished 14th at 15:27.45, and freshman Kassandra Yocco, who made an outstanding collegiate debut with a 15th place run at 15:30.59. Sophomore Kiley Britten (Crystal Lake, Ill.) was not far behind, coming in 18th with a time of 15:35.66.
The Hall's second place finish on the day was aided by senior Desyre Blackburn (Aloha, Ore.), who edged out Lafayette's Katherine Millar for 22nd place, proving to be the difference in the team scores. Blackburn clocked in at 15:52.13.
Seton Hall will be back in action next Saturday when the Pirates run in the Delaware Invitational at 9 a.m.
