Arumugam, Quigley Lead Pirates at Jasper Fall Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – The Seton Hall men's and women's cross country teams continued their seasons with at the Jasper Fall Invitational in Middletown, New York. The men earned a seventh-place finish with 167 points, while the women finished in 10th place with 231 points.
How it Happened - Men
Through the opening stages of the eight-kilometer course, junior phenom Aakash Arumugam was pacing alongside a herd of Army runners atop the field with a mark of 5:32.30. However, the Black Knights slowly pulled away from Arumugam, who crossed the finish line in a team-best 22nd-place finish with a mark of 25:54.30.
Across the line next for the Pirates was Jeffery Grynaviski. After opening the race farther back in the pack, the senior blasted his way through the field in the back half of the race. Grynaviski made up 36 positions across the final two splits to finish in 34th place with a time of 26:10.40.
After topping the times for the Pirates last week, Joseph Butler showcased a high level of consistency this weekend in his performance. After rising to 38th place at the second checkpoint, the senior held the position through the end of the race, finishing with a time of 26:16.30.
Similarly, Ethan Conrad put up a consistent showing, working himself up to 43rd place before crossing the line in 42nd with a time of 26:23.9. Rounding out the top five for the men was junior Liam Griffiths. After a strong start to the race, Griffiths lost some ground in the back half of the race to finish 69th with a time of 27:03.0. Despite the long race distance, The Hall's top-five finishers were only separated by 69 seconds.
How it Happened - Women
Building off her strong showing from last week, Paige Quigley once again topped the timing sheet for the Pirates in New York. Quigley reached 15th place at the first checkpoint and held on to the spot to the finish line. The senior crossed the line in 22:04.40.
For the second straight meet, Destiny Lopez crossed the line as the second-fastest female Pirate on the weekend. The junior climbed ten places across the final three kilometers of the race to finish in 53rd place with a time of 23:13.20. Fellow junior Laura Castagna also closed strong, climbing eight spots to 60th place with a time of 23:26.80.
Rounding out the top-five runners for The Hall were the freshman duo of Maeghan Joyce and Caitlin Brown. Joyce scorched her competition across the second half of the race, gaining 15 positions to finish in 66th with a time of 23:34.10. Brown, meanwhile, capped things off in 75th place with a time of 23:47.50.

The Pirates will compete next on Friday, October 2, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. to compete in the Paul Short Run.
