Cordova Leads Pirates to Runner-Up Finish at Monmouth

Lincroft, N.J. - Junior Bryant Cordova (Elizabeth, N.J.) headlined five top-12 finishes for the Seton Hall men's cross country team as the Pirates placed second in the 2016 Monmouth XC Kick-Off, held at Thompson Park Saturday morning. Cordova finished third in the 6K race, coming in with a time of 19:22.26.Â
Cordova, who was also the team's top finisher at this event in 2015, improved his 6K time from last year by 22 seconds. He was only five seconds off the winner's pace as Monmouth's Graham Huggins-Filozof won the race with a time of 19:17.42.Â
Junior Jake Simon (Freehold, N.J.) was the second Pirate to cross the finish line on the day, placing sixth in the race with a time of 19:38.29. He improved his time from last year's 6K race by over 20 seconds. Following Simon was Louis Bustamante (Hamburg, N.J.), who placed eighth with a time of 19:44.28.Â
Also generating points for the Pirates were junior Jeff Larson (Yucca Valley, Calif.), who clocked in at 19:50.86 to finish 11th, and senior Cameron Quisenberry (Owensboro, Ky.), who came in right behind Larson at 19:54.26 for a 12th place finish.
Two other Pirates finished in the top half of the race as Jarod Moser (Duncanville, Texas) placed 19th and Sean Kip (Union, N.J.) placed 20th among the 48 Div. I runners.
Seton Hall will be back in action next Saturday when the Pirates run in the Delaware Invitational at 9 a.m.
