Pirates fall to Cleveland State, 3-0, but Dani Schroeder is named to the All-Tournament Team.
NOTRE DAME, IND. – Sophomore Cherise Hennigan (Corona, Calif.) recorded a match-high 12 kills, but it wasn't enough as the Seton Hall volleyball team fell to Cleveland State in the Golden Dome Invitational finale, 3-0 (23-25, 20-25, 21-25), on Saturday.
Â
Senior Danielle Schroeder (Chicago, Ill.) finished with seven kills and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Â
For the third straight match to begin the season, the Pirates dropped the first set in heart-breaking close fashion, 25-23. After a back-and-forth start to the set, the Pirates seemingly took control with three straight points after the set was tied at 15. An ace by Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) gave The Hall an 18-15 advantage. Cleveland State however, stormed back to score six of the next seven points to take a 21-19 lead and never trailed again.Â
Â
Seton Hall (0-3) never led in set two, as Cleveland State scored five of the first seven points. The Pirates twice cut the lead to two points, but ultimately fell, 25-20.Â
Â
In set three, the Pirates led 7-6 before the Vikings went on a 7-1 run to take a commanding 13-8 lead. The Hall didn't fold however, and roared back with a run of its own. Seton Hall scored six of the next seven points to even the third set at 14. From there, the set was tied four more times, before Cleveland State took control with the set tied at 19. The Vikings scored six of the final eight points to win set three, 25-21, and complete the sweep.
Â
