Nine Pirates Finish First in Victory at Monmouth

West Long Branch, N.J. - Nine different members of the Seton Hall women's swimming & diving team notched first-place finishes, led by a trio of freshmen Pirates who each won two races, as the Pirates topped Monmouth, 153-84, Tuesday evening at Steadman Natatorium. Rookies Clara Capone (West Hartford, Conn.) (100 & 200 freestyle), Sara Ouellette (Granby, Conn.)Â (100 & 200 butterfly) and Gabrielle Van Tassell (Staten Island, N.Y.) (500 and 1000 freestyle) combined for six first-place finshes.
The Pirates improved to 4-2 on the young season as they continue to get better with each meet and begin to take aim at February's BIG EAST Championship.
Capone was impressive in the freestyle events, capturing the 200 by five seconds over her three competitors with a time of 1:59.46. She then took the 100 in a time of 55.20, leading from start to finish.
Ouellette notched a three-second victory in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:10.55 and also won the 100 in a time of 1:00.35. At the start of the evening, she was part of the winning 200 medley relay alongside teammates Kelsey Buonaiuto (Miller Place, N.Y.), Jordan Decker (Mason, Ohio) and Courtney McCardle (Hurley, N.Y.) with a time of 1:53.46.
Van Tassell continued her strong start in the distance races. She cruised to a 22-second victory in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:34.78. Then she delivered victory in the 500 freestyle with a 10-second win in a time of 5:12.19.

- The 400 freestyle relay team of Emily Barnard (Galloway, N.J.), Casey Young (Macungie, Pa.), Buonaiuto and Jillian Calocino (Maywood, N.J.) in 3:50.80
