SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback to Butler on Saturday night at Owen T. Carroll Field. The Bulldogs (8-3-3, 4-2-0) got in the board with the match less than two minutes old and never looked back to improve to 2-0-1 all-time against the Pirates (0-12-1, 0-6-0).
Vincent Mitchell tallied for Butler in the second minute, and the Bulldogs took that 1-0 lead into the break. The Hall's best chance in the opening frame came on a penalty kick in the 28th minute, but the chance went wide.
Butler tacked on two more goals just past the one-hour mark in the second half, tallying in the 61st and 69th minutes. The Bulldogs held an 18-7 advantage in shots for the match and limited The Hall to one shot on goal. Julian Spindler (Weiserbach, Germany) made his first appearance for the Pirates since Oct. 3 in goal and notched three saves. Samuel Geiler (Offenburg, Germany) paced The Hall with two shots and Alex Pozesky (Columbia, Pa.) put one on goal.
Turning Point
With the match barely underway, Mitchell recovered a Seton Hall turnover in the penalty area and ripped a shot from the left side to the far post. The goal in the second minute was his ninth of the year and stood as the game-winner.
