"Karlie has really stepped up her game this year," said head coach Sara Doell. "I'd love to say I'm surprised, but I'm not. I always knew she was capable of this kind of play. She has shown flashes of excellence, but she has lacked consistency. So far this fall, she has been very consistent."
Kruse shaved five strokes off her second round score to also shoot a 73 in round three. The Pirates' senior finished with a 15-over-par, 77-78-73-228, to tie for 21st place overall. Among those Kruse is tied with is teammate Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio). Pantelas used a second round 69 as the catalyst to shoot a 15-over-par, 82-69-77-228.
Senior Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) completed the three-round event with an 18-over-par, 77-74-80-231. Two strokes behind McClure, McKenzie Cutter used a third round, 74, to finished at 20-over-par with an 81-78-74-233.
Seton Hall's second-best competitor this weekend played as an individual. Junior Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) followed up her 3-over-par, 74, in the second round with an identical score in round three. She tied for 15th overall with a 13-over-par, 78-74-74-226.
Freshman Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.), also competing as an individual, finished the tournament with a 42-over-par, 89-87-79-255.
Seton Hall has now registered top-5 finishes in all three of its fall tournaments so far in 2014.
"I'm really pleased with how we've performed so far this season," Doell said. "We're playing and conducting ourselves like a defending champion ought to. I'm excited to see what the rest of this season has in store for us."
Seton Hall will return to the links on Monday, Oct. 6 for the first and second rounds of a the three-round St. John's Invitational.
