Kruse Shoots a 68 as WGolf Finishes Third

CRYSTAL RIVER, FLA. - Junior Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) shot the lowest single round in Seton Hall women's golf history with a 4-under-par, 68, in the final round of the University of Cincinnati Spring Invitational at Plantation Inn. Kruse led the Pirates to a third place team finish.
Collectively, the Pirates also made some history. Seton Hall fired a third round, 298, which is the lowest par-72 team score in program history. For the three-round event, Seton Hall finished at 46-over-par with a 308-304-298-910 for third place among 14 teams. Jacksonville University won the event at 23-over-par, while Lynn University placed second at 30-over-par.
Only one among a field of 88 individual golfers played better over the three-day event than Kruse. Jacksonville's Jessica Welsh won the individual title at 5-under par. Kruse finished second with an even-par, 75-73-68-216. The junior shaved four strokes off her own par-72, three-round record of 220 set at the Yale Women's Intercollegiate in 2012.
"I'm really proud of Ali... she had a big-time performance today," said Head Coach Sara Doell. "She had six birdies today and had three in a row at one point. She really had a solid weekend and I look forward to seeing what the rest of the spring will bring for her."
Sophomore Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) turned in her best score of the weekend on Sunday with a 4-over-par, 76. She finished the three-day event with a 15-over-par, 77-78-76-231, for 25th place overall.
Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) finished just one stroke behind Tenhundfeld with a 16-over-par, 76-79-77-232. She placed 26th overall.
Junior McKenzie Cutter (Waldorf, Md.) turned in a second consecutive solid round with a 5-over-par, 77, on Sunday. For the event, she tied for 37th place with a 19-over-par, 83-75-77-235.
Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) fired her second straight 6-over-par, 78, in round three. She -finished at 21-over-par with an 81-78-78-237.
Senior Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) rounded out the scoring with a 29-over-par, 80-80-85-245.
Fifteen teams competed on Plantation Inn's par-72, 6,054-yard course for three rounds over three days. In addition to Seton Hall and host Cincinnati, participating schools included: Bradley, Embry Riddle, Florida Atlantic, Florida Southern, Jacksonville University, Lynn University, Memphis, North Dakota State, Seminole State, Southern Mississippi, University of Tampa, UAB- Birmingham and UT- Pan Am.
"Overall, I think it's a great start to our spring," Doell said. "We beat a number of quality programs this weekend."
Seton Hall will return to the links next week with three rounds at the Hoya Invitational in Beallsville, Md., March 31 - April 1.
