Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) fired a 1-over-par, 73, in round two as the Seton Hall women’s golf team shot up the leader board at the 2013 University of Cincinnati Spring Invitational. The Pirates entered the day in 10
th place, but finished it in fifth as the team shot 12 strokes better in round two. Collectively, Seton Hall fired a 14-over-par, 302, in round two, the second-highest team round on Saturday. Currently, the Pirates trail host Cincinnati for the team lead by 12 strokes. Cincinnati was the only team that shot better (300) than Seton Hall on Saturday. The Pirates’ lone other BIG EAST competitor, Rutgers, is currently in 11
th place, 14 strokes behind SHU. Basalone, and round one top Pirate
Christina Cantú (Houston, Texas), were the top performers for Seton Hall in round two. Cantú fired a 3-over-par, 75, on Saturday, and maintains the tournament low-score for the Pirates with a two-day total of 8-over-par, 77-75-152. She is currently tied for 13
th place among 102 individual golfers. “I loved the way be bounced back today after a tough round yesterday,” said Head Coach Sara Doell. “This is much more characteristic of the type of golf we’re capable of playing. We are doing a nice job of supporting one another and I think our team cohesiveness contributed to our better performance today.”
SophomoreAli Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) was two strokes better in round two, finishing with a 4-over-par, 76. Kruse is currently tied for 22nd place overall with a 10-over-par, 78-76-154.
Thanks to her sparkling second round, Hannah Basalone is only one stroke behind Kruse. The junior is tied for 25th place overall with an 11-over-par, 82-73-155. Also, tied for 25th is teammate Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) who is 11-over-par, with a 77-78-155.
Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) was two strokes better in round two and is currently 18-over-par with an 82-80-162. Tenhundfeld has struggled with her putting during the tournament, but has made some adjustments, which could make for a stark improvement in round three.
Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.), competing as an individual, was an impressive eight strokes better in round two, and is currently 22 over par with an 87-79-166.
Seton Hall will complete play at the University of Cincinnati Spring Invitational tomorrow with the third and final round of the tournament.
