
MBB Routs LIU at Holiday Festival

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Six players scored in double-figures as the Seton Hall men's basketball team erupted for a season-high 89 points in an 89-58 rout of LIU-Brooklyn in the Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Festival, Saturday night at the Barclays Center.
Sophomore Brandon Mobley (Savannah, Ga.) led the Pirates with 16 points. Eugene Teague (Vineland, N.J.) scored 14 points to go with a team-high eight rebounds. Fuquan Edwin (Paterson, N.J.), Brian Oliver (Glassboro, N.J.) and Kyle Smyth (River Edge, N.J.), all tallied 13 points, while Aaron Cosby (Louisville, Ky.) scored 11. Even walk-on Connor Laverty (Union, N.J.) got into the action, scoring his first career points with just over a minute remaining in the game.
LIU took an early lead on the offensive exploits of senior Jamal Olasewere, who scored 12 of the team's first 17 points. An early 9-0 run gave the Blackbirds a 19-11 lead, but Seton Hall responded with a run of their own. Smyth had a three-point play to tie the game at 19 and back-to-back three-pointers by Mobley and Haralds Karlis (Riga, Latvia) extended the Pirates run to 16-0 and gave them a 27-19 lead with 8:33 left in the first half.
Leading 39-28, the Pirates ended the first half on a 10-1 run highlighted by a three-pointer from Brian Oliver and capped by a Kevin Johnson (Compton, Calif.) put-back with just 28 seconds to go. Seton Hall entered the locker room with their largest lead of the half, 48-29.
The Pirates shot 56.7% in the first half, including 7-for-12 from three-point range. LIU shot just 33.3% from the floor. Seton Hall also doubled-up the Blackbirds on the glass, 22-to-11.
Seton Hall's hot offense picked up where it left off to begin the second half. The Pirates scored eight of the first 10 points scored in the half and took a commanding 56-31 lead with 18:01 remaining.
A pair of Mobley free-throws extended Seton Hall's lead to 31 points, 67-36, with 14:05 to play. LIU wouldn't get closer than 22 points the rest of the way.
Seton Hall (10-2) shot a season-high 58.3% (35-for-60) from the field, including 10-for-21 from three-point range.
Jamal Olasewere scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Blackbirds.
The Pirates will return to the court on Friday, December 28 when they host Stony Brook in their final non-conference game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
