
Women's Swimming and Diving Rolls Past Rider, 165-126

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's swimming and diving team rolled past Rider 165-126 in their season opener Thursday night.
Sophomore Kerrie Kolackovsky (Franklin Square, N.Y.) took home three victories, placing first in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke and the 500-yard freestyle.
In her breastroke wins, Kolackovsky was immediately followed at the wall by teammates Kaley Swider (Galloway, N.J.) and freshman Samantha Granan (Hyde Park, N.Y.) who finished second and third respectively in both instances.
Junior Andrea Shuba (Pittsburgh, Pa.) notched wins in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke. Senior Marilyn Purvis (Old Saybrook, Conn.) also scored for the Pirates in these events, finishing third in the 200 and fourth in the 100.
Senior Rose Virgilio (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) was the third Pirate to score multiple victories on the night. Virgilio eclipsed the field in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle. Junior Alie Zelenky (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) a strong presence for SHU in these events as well, finishing third and fourth respectively.
Sophomore Jane Ehret (Florida, N.Y.) set the pace in the 200-yard butterfly, notching one of eight individuals wins for Seton Hall. Her classmate Kelly Markwell (Old Bridge, N.J.) tallied a fourth place finish and junior Brenna O'Keefe (Hyde Park, N.Y.) finished just behind her in fifth to round out the Pirates' scoring in the event. Markwell and Ehret would later record second and third place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly.
Ehret also posted the top time in 200-yard Individual Medley.
Two Seton Hall relay teams topped the field in the 200-yard Medley with the team of Shuba, Kolackovsky, Ehret, and Virgilio followed closely by the quartet of Purvis, Swider, Markwell and Zelenky.
The Seton Hall women's diving team dove unopposed and was led by sophomore Katie Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) in both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events.
Ehret, Granan, Kolackovsky, Markwell, Purvis, Riley, Shuba, Swider, and Virgilio all secured spots in the BIG EAST Championships by recording qualifying times.
The women's swimming and diving team returns to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 29 when they travel to Baltimore, Md. for a quad meet with Drexel, Lafayette and hosts Loyola (MD).
