A national champion, member of the 1928 U.S. Olympic team and a world record holder in the 440-yard hurdles, John Gibson came to Seton Hall in 1945 as the head track & field coach with a wealth of experience. For 27 years, he passed on his own technical skills and academic convictions to his student-athletes. Many of these young student-athletes achieved their own recognition as National and IC4A Individual and/or Relay Champions, with one student-athlete achieving Olympic gold (twice) and silver (once) medals.
