Seton Hall All-Time vs. Creighton: 16-14 (Streak: L6)
NOTES YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Seton Hall is off to its best 14-game start to a season since 2017-18, when it also started 12-2 (eventually got up to 14-2).
- The Pirates have opened the New Year with a victory in nine of their last 11 seasons.
- The Pirates have won their first two conference road games for the first time since 2020-21.
- The last time the Pirates reached the New Year with only two losses was 2021-22. The last three occurrences have all resulted in NCAA Tournament berths (2015-16 and 2017-18).
- Stephon Payne grabbed 22 rebounds in Tuesday's win at Marquette, the most rebounds by a Pirate since Angel Delgado pulled down 23 in his memorable performance against Kansas in the Second Round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
- Payne has 48 rebounds through three BIG EAST games, the first Pirate to have that many in a three-game span in league play since Delgado in 2018.
- Seton Hall enters play ranked 14th in adjusted defensive efficiency according to KenPom.
- The Pirates also own the 10th best scoring defense in the nation (63.0).
- The Pirates opened the year with a six-game winning streak, the team's longest streak under Shaheen Holloway. The last time The Hall won six straight was Feb. 19-March 9, 2022.
- Stephon Payne racked up the accolades last week after his 18-point, 16-rebound performance at Providence on Dec. 19.
- Payne brought home BIG EAST Player of the Week honors and was also named one of the USBWA National Players of the Week.
- Payne also received the MET Basketball Writers Player of the Week honor.Â
- The Pirates used a 13-0 run to close the game in a 79-73 victory at Marquette on Tuesday night.
- The win snapped Seton Hall's four-game losing streak in Milwaukee.
- Tuesday's win marked just the third time all season that the Pirates have allowed more than 70 points.
- The Pirates opened BIG EAST play with a 72-67 victory over Providence on Dec. 19.
- Stephon Payne put on a show with 18 points and 16 rebounds, while Tajuan Simpkins poured in a career-high 22 points.
- Simpkins nailed what proved to be the game-winning three-pointer with just over one minute remaining to put The Hall ahead for good.
- In the non-conference finale, Seton Hall reclaimed the Boardwalk Trophy by defeating in-state rivals Rutgers, 81-59, in the Garden State Hardwood Classic on Dec. 13.
- Budd Clark was named the Joe Calabrese MVP of the game, finishing with 16 points, seven assists, four steals and just one turnover.
- Three of Clark's steals came within the first two minutes of the game, and 14 of his 16 points came after halftime.
- The Pirates grabbed a signature road win on Dec. 6, downing Kansas State, 78-67, for their first win over a Big 12 foe since downing Texas on Dec. 7, 2021.
- The Longhorns were ranked No. 7 in that game, which served as Seton Hall's last non-conference ranked win before it defeated No. 23 NC State at last week's Southwest Maui Invitational.
- Picked to finish last in the BIG EAST before the season, the Pirates have already nearly doubled last year's win total and have scored double-digit signature wins over No. 23 NC State in Maui as well as on the road at Kansas State.
- Five different Pirates made multiple three-pointers in the win over CCSU back on Dec. 3, a first since Feb. 14, 2012 against St. John's.
