
Hennessee Fuels Pirates to Second Place at Lagowitz

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Sophomore Will Hennessee (Tulsa, Okla.) finished fourth at 1-under-par to lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial on Sunday.

Hennessee used a remarkable second round to buoy his second career sub-par tournament. In the second round, which was started on Saturday and finished on Sunday due to darkness, he used seven birdies to fuel a 6-under-par, 66. On Sunday, he shot a 1-over-par, 73. For the tournament, Hennessee was 1-under-par with a 76-66-73-215. He placed fourth overall among 92 individual golfers for his highest career finish and his second career top-10.

Hennessee's second-round 66 is tied for the fifth-lowest par-72 single-round in program history. Only four players have shot a 65.

As a team, The Hall rocketed up the leader board after a second-round 7-under-par, 281. On Sunday, the Pirates shot a 2-over-par, 290. For the tournament, they placed second in the field of 13 teams with a 1-under-par, 292-281-289-863. Lehigh, which had two sub-par rounds, finished at 8-under-par to win the team title. BIG EAST foe Villanova placed third, nine strokes behind The Hall.

It's the 22nd time in program history that Seton Hall has finished a tournament under par.Â

Graduate student George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) also had a huge second round. He was 4-under-par through 12 holes before fading a bit late. Still, Fricker shot a 2-under-par, 70. In round three, he had two birdies and two bogeys for an even-par, 72. For the tournament, Fricker tied for eighth with a 1-over-par, 75-70-72-217. It's Fricker's 10th top-10 finish.

Senior David Lally (Wickow, Ireland) had three birdies and 13 pars to fuel a 1-under-par, 71, in round two. In round three, he had two more birdies on his way to a 3-over-par, 75. For the tournament, Lally narrowly missed a top-10 finish, tying for 11th with a 2-over-par, 72-71-75-218.

Eli Shah (Newtown Square, Pa.) turned in his best round on Sunday. The junior had three birdies and 13 pars in route to a 1-under-par, 71. For the tournament, he tied for 21st place with a 4-over-par, 75-74-71-220.

After a spectacular first collegiate round, Blake Goodnight (Dallas, Texas) faded a bit in rounds two and three. The freshman still turned in a memorable first tournament, tying Shah for 21st place at 4-over-par. He shot a 70-76-74-220.

Rounding out Seton Hall's lineup was freshman Jace Hulett (Boerne, Texas) who bounced back nicely from a rough start to shoot a 3-over-par in both rounds two and three. For the tournament, he was 14-over-par with an 80-75-75-230.

Seton Hall also has three players competing as individuals. Sophomore Luke Nolan (Austin, Texas) had a strong final round, shooting a 1-under-par, 71. For the tournament, he tied for 16th place overall with a 3-over-par, 73-75-71-219. Senior Jack Bosworth (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) saved his best round for last a well, firing a 1-over-par, 73. For the three-round event, he was 9-over-par, with a 76-76-73-225. Junior Isaiah Williams (Flemington, N.J.) finished one stroke behind Bosworth with a 10-over-par, 74-76-76-226.Â

THE COURSE:
Named for the ancestral home of the Colgate family, Seven Oaks Golf Club is nestled on the Colgate University Campus at the upper end of the Chenango Valley, in Hamilton, New York. In 1934, a young architect by the name of Robert Trent Jones was brought to Hamilton to begin work on designing the course as one of his first projects. Unfortunately, due to the great depression and WWII, the course and his plans were continuously postponed.

Jones was called back many times throughout the following years to redesign the course before a final version was accepted and it was not until 1956 that ground was broken on the first nine holes, officially opening on July 4th, 1958. Construction for the remainder of the course soon began and on September 4th, 1965 the last nine holes were opened for play.

Seven Oaks is characteristic of all Jones' courses, which include strategic deployment of water, along with extensive tee areas and large, expansive greens.Â

THE FIELD:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Colgate, the field included 12 other schools: Binghamton, Bucknell, Canisius, Cornell, Iona, Lehigh, Le Moyne, Niagara, Pennsylvania, Saint Joseph's and St. Bonaventure. Fellow BIG EAST opponent, Villanova, is also in the field.
