Seton Hall makes its 2025 Walsh Gym debut this weekend when it hosts a trio of opponents as part of the annual Seton Hall Classic. The Pirates will face Iona at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, NJIT at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and Central Connecticut State at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

All three matches will be streamed live via ESPN+ and can be heard on 89.5 FM WSOU or wsou.net. All three contests will also have live stats capabilities.

LAST WEEKEND
Seton Hall is coming off a 1-2 season-opening weekend in Nashville. The Hall opened the 2025 season with a sweep of UT Martin on Saturday, before falling in four sets at Belmont. On Sunday, The Hall dropped a hard-fought match at Lipscomb. Senna Roberts-Navarro (Honolulu, Hi.) averaged a team-best 3.09 kills per set during the three matches. Roberts-Navarro, Sadie Reich (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Emilee Fuller (Louisville, Ky.) all collected double-doubles over the weekend.

Defensively, Rylee Nelson (Mazeppa, Minn.) and Rowan Carr (Lakeville, Minn.) saw time at libero and averaged over 3.80 digs per game, while Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkey) led The Hall with 1.09 blocks per set at the net.

SCOUTING IONA
Seton Hall and Iona will meet up for the 14th time in history on Friday. The Pirates have never lost to the Gaels, and furthermore, have dropped only one set over the prior 13 matches. The Hall has won 18 consecutive sets, including a sweep in the teams' most recent meeting in Walsh Gym in 2022.

The Gaels are coming off an 11-21 record in 2024, which included an 8-10 mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. Iona defeated Sacred Heart in the first round of the MAAC Tournament, but was bounced in a four-set loss to Canisius in the second round.

This season, Iona was picked to finish seventh in the 12-team MAAC Preseason Poll, according to the conference's coaches. They opened the season with victories in two of three matches last weekend. The Gales defeated both Stonehill and NJIT in four sets before being swept by Boston College in the Iona Invitational finale on Saturday. Mija Jegers led Iona with 3.18 kills per set last weekend.

SCOUTING NJIT
Seton Hall and NJIT will lock up for the 11th time in history on Saturday. The Hall has won nine of the prior 10 meetings with its lone loss coming in 2008. Since then, the Pirates have won eight straight in the series, including four consecutive sweeps. This will be the fifth straight year facing the Highlanders.

NJIT is coming off a rough 2024 campaign which featured a 5-23 final record and an 0-10 mark in American East Conference play. Their season ended with 11 straight losses with the final four matches being sweeps.Â

All three incoming seniors for NJIT have returned to the court for their final season as a Highlander.  Mariana Cova, Taylor West and Doga Emil all return with veteran experience for Coach Pedro Trevino with all three seniors playing in over 70 sets each last season. NJIT also welcomed five freshmen.

NJIT enters the weekend with a 1-3 record. The Highlanders were swept by Boston College before losing to Iona in four sets. They came away from the weekend with a four-set victory over Stonehill on Saturday. On Tuesday, NJIT lost in four sets to Saint Peter's.

The Hall has lost to Central Connecticut State only once in 14 all-time meetings. The Pirates fell to the Blue Devils in five sets in 2009, but since, swept them in 2022.

The Blue Devils are coming off a lost 2024 season, which included a 4-22 overall record and a 2-12 mark in Northeast Conference (NEC) play.

CCSU was picked to finish seventh in the nine-team NEC Preseason Poll, according to the conference's coaches. Central Connecticut State added 11 newcomers to its roster for 2025.

The Blue Devils are still seeking their first set victory of the season after a trio of sweeps last weekend. Central Connecticut State fell in straight sets to Stony Brook, Rhode Island and Siena. Weronika Poczynek led CCSU with 26 kills and 27.5 points.
