SCOUTING NO. 21 PENN
- Penn is 1-0-0 on the season after defeating Loyola Maryland 4-0 last Friday in their season opener.
- In the Ivy League Preseason Poll, the Quakers were voted to finish first in the conference with 120 points and 10 first-place votes.
- In 2024, Penn topped the Ivy League in the regular season with a 14-4-1 record overall while going a perfect 7-0 in conference play. The Quakers were eliminated in the second round by UMass, who themselves were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
- The team has five All-Ivy Team selections, three first team and three second team, in addition to three honorable mentions. The Quakers also claimed Co-Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Coaching staff of the year last season.
- After appearing in the United Soccer Coaches Poll's preseason top 25, the Quakers fell out before jumping back into the rankings in the 21st spot this week following the win.
- Despite losing leading scorers Stas Korzeniowski (12 goals) and Leo Burney (4 goals), the Quakers return their lead assist man from 2024, Patrick Cayelli (9 assists), and Jack-Ryan Jeremiah. Jeremiah contributed four goals (T-2nd) and four assists (2nd) in 2024, earning him First Team All-Ivy Honors.
- Despite David Howard making his debut in net against Loyola Maryland, Penn also returns 2024 Second Team All-Ivy selection Phillip Falcon III. The junior netminder started every game last season, going 14-4-1 with a 0.84 GAA and 9 clean sheets.
- This will be the 18th matchup all-time against the Quakers, with the first match coming in 1990.
- The Pirates hold a 12-3-2 record all-time against Penn, with the last matchup between the two teams occurring in 2017.
- The Pirates won that match 2-1 at Rhodes Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
- The Pirates are 3-1-1 in their last five matchups against the Quakers.
- After collecting a pair of goals in the opening week, sophomore Mikkel Lejbowicz (Farum, Denmark) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on September 25.
- After transferring from Maryland, the Dane has made an immediate impact on a Pirates' attack that waned down the stretch last season. Lejbowicz came off the bench in the opener against Lafayette, logging a goal on two shots in only 18 minutes of play in a 2-0 Pirates victory. He started the second game against Rutgers, logging a career-high seven shots in addition to scoring a end-to-end unassisted goal in a 2-2 draw.
- After collecting All-BIG EAST Second Team honors last season in his first full season as a starter, senior Agustin Resch (Arata, Argentina) was named BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and was unanimously selected to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
- Last year, in 1450 minutes played, Resch served as a central part of a Pirates' defense that ranked top 30 nationally in both goals allowed average (1.000) and shutout percentage (.444), earning the then-junior an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection at season's end.
- This was the first Preseason All-BIG EAST selection for the Pirates since CJ Tibbling and Luca Dahn in 2021, as well as the first Preseason Defensive Player of the Year since Dahn that same season.
