
Brunozzi Leads Way for Pirates at Stony Brook Season Opener

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Seton Hall men's cross country opened its season in Stony Brook, NY at the Stony Brook Season Opener today. In their first meet under new Head Coach Jacob Simon, the team placed third out of seven teams with 85 total points.
How it Happened
After a strong season where he finished every race as one of the first three Pirates, senior Logan Brunozzi became the first Pirate to cross the line this season for The Hall. The Churchville, Pa native finished the course in seventh place with a time of 19:35.20.
After Brunozzi, sophomore Aakash Arumugam came across the line in tenth place, giving the Pirates a pair of top-ten finishers, with a time of 19:43.70. Arumugam's tenth-place finish was the highest of his collegiate career, in addition to being his highest finish among Pirate runners during his time at The Hall.
Rounding out the top 25 for the Pirates was senior Stephen Beaman. Beaman finished 17th overall and as the third finisher for The Hall with a time of 19:57.40. This is the seventh-straight race that Beaman has finished as one of the top three Pirate finishers.
The final two point scorers for the Pirates were sophomore Jack Smith and junior Jeffery Grynaviski. Smith, who finished in 31st with a time of 20:34.20, was the fourth Pirate to cross the line. That was a career-best finish for Smith, whose prior best intra-team placement was when he finished as the fifth-fastest Pirate at the Highlander Invitational.
Grynaviski crossed the line three seconds behind Smith in 33rd place with a time of 20.37.60. This finish was the fifth time in the last two seasons that he has placed as a top-five Pirate finisher.

The Pirates will continue their season on Saturday, September 13 when they travel to Montogomery, N.Y. to compete in the Jasper Fall Invitational.
