NOTES YOU NEED TO KNOW
- After nearly pulling off a 20-plus point comeback in the second half on Sunday against Xavier, the Seton Hall men's basketball team returns to Prudential Center on Wednesday when the Pirates take on Villanova at 8:30 p.m. on FS1.Â
- Wednesday marks the 130th meeting between Seton Hall and Villanova, making the Wildcats the Pirates' the most frequently played opponent.
- Seton Hall was the victor in its last meeting against the Wildcats at Prudential Center as the Pirates registered a 66-56 win on March 6, 2024.
- The Pirates' 10-point win marked their largest margin of victory over the Wildcats since a 68-55 win on Dec. 9, 1998 at Continental Airlines Arena.
- That win over Villanova was head coach Shaheen Holloway's 100th career victory and it was The Hall's first win over the Wildcats since a 70-64 win at Wells Fargo Center on 12/8/20.
- Holloway and head coach Kyle Neptune have had similar career paths; both are from New York City (Neptune, Brooklyn; Holloway, Queens), both started as video coordinators at their current institutions, both served their first full-time assistant coaching jobs at MAAC schools (Neptune, Niagara; Holloway, Iona) and both went head-to-head as assistants on the court and on the recruiting trail from 2013-2018 at their current schools.
- The Pirates are three games removed from arguably its most significant win of the season as they defeated two-time defending national champion UConn, 69-68, in overtime at Prudential Center.
- The win was Seton Hall's fourth consecutive win against UConn at Prudential Center.
- Seton Hall improved to 3-0 on the season in overtime games and head coach Shaheen Holloway moved to 10-3 all-time in overtime games as a head coach.
- In 10 BIG EAST games this season, Dylan Addae-Wusu is averaging 11.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.
- Addae-Wusu trails only Creighton's Ryan Kalkbrenner for the most career BIG EAST games played among active players with 87.
- Chaunce Jenkins (knee), who has led the Pirates in scoring six times this season and The Hall is 4-2 in those games, has missed nine straight games.
- Isaiah Coleman posted his ninth 20-point game of the season with his 23-point performance on Sunday against the Musketeers.
- Coleman is one of the top scorers in the BIG EAST in conference play where he ranks fifth in scoring averaging 17.9 points per game.
- He also ranks 11th in league in rebounding averaging 6.1 boards per contest.
- Coleman posted his second double-double of the season and his career at Georgetown on Feb. 8 where he scored 21 points and grabbed 10 boards.
- Coleman has scored in double-figures in 16 of his last 19 games and eight of those outputs were 20-point performances against BIG EAST teams.
- Also coming into his own is freshman center Godswill Erheriene who registered his first career double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds) in the win over the Huskies.
- Erheriene is averaging 7.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 28.1 minutes over the last four games.
- Seton Hall has forced 15 or more turnovers in six of its last 10 games thanks in large part to its diamond full court press.
- The Hall ranks third in the BIG EAST and 43rd in the country forcing 14.3 turnovers per game.
- Seton Hall ranks second in the BIG EAST averaging 11.5 offensive rebounds per gameÂ
- According to KenPom, the Pirates rank eighth in Div. I in bench minutes (43.1 pct.).
- Seton Hall ranks second in the BIG EAST in bench scoring averaging 21.3 points per game.
