QUEENS, N.Y. – Off the back of Mikkel Lejbowicz's fourth goal in three games, Seton Hall men's soccer (7-2-6, 3-0-3 BIG EAST) downed the St. John's Red Storm (7-3-3, 2-2-1 BIG EAST), 1-0, at Belson Stadium in a BIG EAST matchup with massive postseason implications.
Both sides sat mired in a defensive battle for the opening 25 minutes before the Pirates finally broke through the Red Storm's defensive quagmire. Off the back of an Axel Berglund free kick, Lejbowicz netted an Agustin Resch header to put The Hall up 1-0 heading into the break. In the second half, the Red Storm's offense surged forward in search of an equalizer, dominating the possession and outshooting The Hall seven-to-three. Matias Molina and the Pirates' defense stood tall, however, securing a crucial 1-0 victory for the Pirates as time expired.
With the win, Seton Hall moves to 6-2-6 on the season and 3-0-3 in BIG EAST play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the early stages of this potentially postseason bid-swinging matchup, neither team found a firm footing on the offensive end. As both sides battled on their respective defensive thirds, the Red Storm would collect the first offensive chance of the night. While it ended up being off target, St. John's logged the first shot of the game in the 7th minute. As the game reached the midpoint of the first half, that shot proved to be the only one registered by either team in the opening 25 minutes.
The momentum shifted in the 25th minute when an offensive breakaway, led by Agustin Resch, resulted in the Pirates' first shot of the night. As the Pirates' attacking momentum surged in the following minutes, their offensive pressure felt like it was waiting for its moment. That moment would come in the 32nd minute when, off an Axel Berglund free kick, Resch headed the ball across a crowded box. That ball would find the feet of Mikkel Lejbowicz, who snuck the ball behind the keeper to put the Pirates up 1-0 in the first half.
As the second half began, Matias Molina and the Pirates' defense found themselves under pressure immediately. Within three minutes of the half starting, the Red Storm had already logged two shots before the Pirates had a single offensive chance. Despite that pressure, The Hall held firm as they turned away St. John's at every turn.
Yet as the clock approached zero, the Pirates remained firmly in control of possession. Inside the final ten minutes, Seton Hall's defense held the Red Storm to only a single shot, resulting in an essential 1-0 win for the Pirates.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Seton Hall will return to action on Saturday, November 1, when the Pirates travel to Omaha, Neb., to take on the Creighton Blue Jays at Morrison Stadium in a BIG EAST clash. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m. EST and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.

Despite stalling out the Red Storm, the Pirates struggled to string together offensive chances in the second half. In between a flurry of fouls from both sides, The Hall managed only three shots in the second half. Both Konstantin Donalies and Til Kauschke had high-quality chances around the goal, but St. John's McLachlan produced two reactionary saves in response.Molina quashes that dangerous ball in its tracks! 🏴☠️#HALLin🔵⚪️⚽️ pic.twitter.com/vlme2j1oyw
