The Hall shot a 285 to rocket up the leaderboard on Tuesday.
KERRVILLE, TEXAS – Graduate student Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) fired a 5-under-par, 67, to tie for second at The Big Texan and lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a fourth-place team finish on Tuesday.
Â
Xie had only one blemish on Tuesday, a bogey on the 11th hole, in route to completing one of the best single rounds in program history. With six birdies and 11 pars, he shot a 5-under-par, 67, to shoot to the top of the individual leader board. It's Xie's 11th sub-par tournament, which ranks second-most in program history.
Â
For the tournament, Xie shot a 7-under-par, 73-69-67-209, finishing only four strokes behind the individual champion, UTRGV's Javier Neira.
Â
As a team, The Hall rocketed up the leaderboard after a 3-under-par, 285, on Tuesday. The Pirates finished fourth in the field of 15 teams with a 14-over-par, 292-301-285-878. Host UT Rio Grande Valley won the team title at 10-under-par.
Â
Sophomore Jack Bosworth (Simsbury, Conn.) had three birdies and 12 pars on his way to an even-par, 72, on Tuesday. It's his second straight strong tournament effort as he finished the two-day event tied for 14th place with a 1-over-par, 70-75-72-217.
Â
Freshman Isaiah Williams (Flemington, N.J.) carded a 4-over-par, 76, in Tuesday's final round. For the tournament, he tied for 53rd place with a 10-over-par, 72-78-76-226.
Â
George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) had a solid bounce-back round, shaving six strokes off his second-round score with a 1-over-par, 73. For the tournament, he was 13-over-par with a 77-79-73-229.

THE BIG TEXAN
Host: University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley
Location:Â Kerrville, Texas
Course:Â Riverhill Country Club
Course Vitals:Â Par-72, 7,137 yards
Dates:Â March 25-26, 2024
Â
THE COURSE
Riverhill's architect, Joe Finger, is a well-traveled Renaissance man who has dabbled in everything from corrugated plastics and dairy farming to college golf and course development. So it says something that he chose Riverhill Country Club as his home. Consistently rated as one of the top courses in all of Texas, Riverhill is a scenic layout with major elevation changes; undulating, elevated greens; lots of water and tough Hill Country brush that wreaks havoc on errant balls.
Â
Leon Howard designed the course originally as a 9-hole layout back in 1952, but members eventually commissioned Byron Nelson and Ralph Plummer to improve the layout. Plummer became ill, opening the door for Finger's contributions. One of his most challenging holes is No. 11, a par 3 that sometimes plays around 200 yards from the tips. With the wind blowing and water on all along the right side, it's an intimidating tee shot when you're aiming at the tiny green.
Â
Hole 4 is the most difficult rated hole, a 458-yard par 4. Another tough challenge is the long par 5 14th, which happens to be proceeded by another long par 5, creating a tough stretch of golf on the back side.
Â
THE FIELD
In addition to Seton Hall and host Texas-Rio Grande Valley, the field featured 13 other teams including: Abilene Christian, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Midland College, New Mexico JC, New Orleans, Ranger College, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F.
