
Pirates Finish Seventh at Loyola Intercollegiate

Wenliang Xie fired a team-best 1-under-par, 71, in Tuesday's final round.
GOODYEAR, ARIZ. – Graduate student Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) shot a 1-under-par, 71, to lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a seventh-place finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate on Tuesday.

Xie had three birdies and 13 pars to fuel the top Seton Hall effort in round three. For the tournament, he tied for 42nd place with a 1-under-par, 74-70-71-215. It's his 10th career sub-par tournament, which ranks his second on Seton Hall's career list. His 38 sub-par rounds also rank second-most.

As a team, The Hall shot a 4-over-par, 292, in round three, which slipped them two spots to a seventh-place finish in the large field of 20 teams. For the tournament, the Pirates were 10 under-par with a 286-276-292-854. North Dakota State won the team title at 40-under-par.

Sophomore Jack Bosworth (Simsbury, Conn.) was the top Pirates performer for the three-day event. On Tuesday, he shot a pedestrian 3-over-par, 75, but he finished the tournament with a career-best 3-under-par, 71-67-75-213. Bosworth tied for 26th place among 116 individual golfers. It's his second career sub-par tournament.

Finishing one stroke behind Bosworth for the tournament, George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) shot a 5-over-par, 77, in round three. For the three-day event, he tied for 33rd place with a 2-under-par, 68-67-77-214.

Junior Joshua Lee (Lantana, Texas) closed out a strong tournament with a 2-over-par, 74, on Tuesday. He had three consecutive birdies at one point, and four overall. For the tournament, he had a career-best performance with a 1-over-par, 73-70-74-217.

Freshman Eli Shah (Newport Square, Pa.) had the best round of his tournament, using four birdies to fuel an even-par, 72, on Tuesday. For the tournament, he was 15-over-par with an 81-78-72-231.

Competing as an individual, Isaiah Williams (Flemington, N.J.) impressed in his first tournament of the spring. The freshman shot a 2-over-par, 74, on Tuesday, to finish the tournament tied for 57th with a 2-over-par, 74-70-74-218, also a career-best.
