
Pirates Come Up Short Against DePaul, 3-1

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Graduate student Laila Wallace (Munster, Ind.) and sophomore Senna Roberts-Navarro (Honolulu, Hawaii) combined for 18 kills and only three errors, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to DePaul, 3-1 (20-25, 15-25, 25-18, 19-25), in Walsh Gym on Sunday.

The Hall rallied with one of its best single sets of the season in set three, but it couldn't continue the momentum in set four. The Pirates have now dropped six of their last seven contests.

Roberts-Navarro had nine kills, only one attack error and a .381 attack percentage, while Wallace notched nine kills, only two attack errors and a .318 attack percentage.Â

Senior Maddie Klungel (Napa, Calif.) had a match-high 32 assists to go with eight digs and two kills. Junior Hadlee Ackerman (Atlanta, Ga.) collected a career-high 20 digs to lead the Pirates.

SET 1:
The opening set was the closest of the match with the teams tying nine times. A block by Klungel and Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkiye) gave The Hall an 18-15 lead, but DePaul stunned the Pirates by closing out the rest of the set with a 10-2 run to steal set one, 25-20.Â

SET 2:
DePaul led the second set wire-to-wire and held the Pirates to a -.024 attack percentage. A block by Subasili and Reagan Merk (Hunting Beach, Calif.) cut The Hall's deficit to 11-8, but the Blue Demons responded with an 8-1 run to grab a commanding 19-9 advantage. DePaul went on to win the second set, 25-15.

Seton Hall played inspired volleyball in the third set, collecting 17 kills, only one attack error and a match-high .432 attack percentage. With the score tied at 11, the Pirates went on a 10-3 run, and a kill by Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) gave them a commanding 21-14 advantage. The Hall went on to force a fourth set with a 25-18 set-three victory. Roberts-Navarro had six of her nine kills in the third set alone.

Down for most of the fourth set, The Hall made a late push. Trailing 15-10, the Pirates went on a 7-1 run, and a block by Subasili gave them their first lead of the set, 17-16. The Blue Demons came right back, however, and closed out the set with a 9-2 run. DePaul had a .368 attack percentage in a 25-19 set four victory.

The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 16 when they host BIG EAST rival Georgetown. The match is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
