
Sun, Fricker Lead Pirates to Second Place at Dartmouth

ENFIELD, N.H. – Junior Wanxi Sun (Danville, Calif.) fired a 3-under-par, 69, on Sunday to lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Dartmouth Invitational.

Sun had a dazzling final round, using six birdies and 10 pars to race up the individual leaderboard. Sun finished the two-day event tied for sixth with a 1-over-par, 76-69-145. It's his fourth career top-10 finish and his second straight to begin the fall season.

Sun, however, wasn't the top Pirate for the tournament. That honor belongs to sophomore George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) who wrapped up his second tournament as a Pirate with a 2-under-par, 70, on Sunday. Fricker had five birdies and 10 pars in round three. For the tournament, he tied for second among 61 individual golfers with a 3-under-par, 71-70-141.

Saint Joseph's J.T. Spina won the individual title, finishing just one stroke ahead of Fricker.

As a team, The Hall shaved 18 strokes off its first-round score to finish with a 1-under-par, 287, on Sunday. Despite the stout performance, Siena was able to hold off the Pirates for the team title. The Hall finished the two-day event with a 16-over-par, 305-287-592.Â

The Hall has now started the fall season with a victory at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial and a runner-up at the Dartmouth Invitational.

Sophomore Angus O'Brien (Barwon Heads, Australia) shaved seven strokes off his first-round score on Sunday. He had a birdie on No. 8 and an eagle on the par-5, No. 11 hole. For the tournament, he placed 18th with a 9-over-par, 80-73-153.

Senior Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) was another Pirate to eagle hole No. 11 on Sunday. He shaved five strokes off his first-round score to finish with a 3-over-par, 75. For the tournament, he tied for 22nd with an 11-over-par, 80-75-155.

Junior Brody Hanley (Lantana, Texas) rounded out the Pirates' lineup on Sunday with an 8-over-par, 80. For the two-day event, he tied for 32nd with a 14-over-par, 78-80-158.

Two Pirates playing as individuals also wrapped up their tournaments on Saturday. Freshman Jack Bosworth (Simsbury, Conn.) had four birdies in route to a 3-over-par, 75.  He finishes tied for 19th overall with a 10-over-par, 79-75-154. Freshman David Lally (Wicklow, Ireland) closed out his tournament with an 8-over-par, 80. He finished the event with a 14-over-par, 78-80-158.

Montcalm was awarded a Golf Digest award in 2005 as one of the top 10 Best New Private Courses in the country and was again acknowledged in 2007 by the magazine as one of the Best in State. It continually receives rave reviews from members and guests who enjoy the complete privacy and exquisite beauty that is Montcalm. So just what is it that makes this 6,829-yard design so special?

The club itself is remote, and the course moves further away from civilization as soon as you hit your first tee shot. Adherence to the Donald Ross philosophy of maintaining as much of the land's natural character as possible required finding creative solutions for the varied terrain. While the natural layout could easily challenge a PGA professional, playability and challenges are ensured for golfers of all levels.
