
Xie Leads Pirates' Strong Effort at Loyola Intercollegiate

The Hall shoots its second-lowest par-72 three-round tournament in history and places fourth in a monster field.
GOODYEAR, ARIZ. – Four Pirates finished under par for the tournament and in the top-20 and the Seton Hall men's golf team placed fourth in a strong field of 18 teams at the Loyola Intercollegiate on Tuesday.

Senior Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) had the low round of the day for the Pirates, using five birdies and 11 pars to shoot a 3-under-par, 69. For the three-round event, he tied for 16th with a 3-under-par, 72-72-69-213. It's Ramachandran's fourth-career sub-par tournament, and today's third round was his 16th career sub-par round.

As a team, The Hall put together its third-straight sub-par round, a 2-under-par, 286. The Pirates finished fourth with a 12-under-par, 283-283-286-852. Middle Tennessee State won the team title at 29-under-par. A pair of BIG EAST teams were also in the field. Creighton finished ninth at 2-over-par, while DePaul placed 11th at 11-over-par.

Seton Hall's 852 is the second-lowest par-72, three-round score in program history. It's the 16th sub-par tournament ever for the Pirates.

Junior Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) was the top Pirate for the tournament. He used four birdies on Tuesday to power a 2-under-par, 70, in his final round. For the event, Xie tied for 10th among 110 individual golfers with a 4-under-par, 70-72-70-212. It's Xie's third career top-10 finish and his third sub-par tournament.

Tied with Ramachandran for 16th just one stroke behind Xie was graduate student Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England). He had an eagle on the par-5 No. 2 hole in route to a 2-over-par, 74, Tuesday. For the event, he was 3-under-par with a 69-70-74-213. It's Tait's sixth career sub-par tournament and his second this year.

Graduate student Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) had four birdies in round three on his way to a 1-over-par, 73. For the three-day event, he tied for 18th place overall with a 2-under-par, 72-69-73-214. It's Acevedo's third career sub-par tournament and his second of the year.

Sophomore Wanxi Sun (Danville, Calif.) closed out his first tournament of the spring with a 3-over-par, 75. For the event, he finished 14-over-par with an 82-73-75-230.

Seton Hall sent two additional Pirates who competed as individuals this week. Angus O'Brien (Barwon Heads, Australia) put the finishing touches on a second-straight strong event this spring. He shot a 3-over-par, 75, on Tuesday and tied for 24th overall with a 1-under-par, 66-74-75-215. It's O'Brien's first career sub-par tournament.

Sophomore Brody Hanley (Lantana, Texas) leaves Arizona following his best round of the tournament. He used four birdies and 10 pars to shoot an even-par, 72.  For the tournament, he was 6-over-par with a 73-77-72-222.
