Pirates Topped By No. 11 Georgetown, 3-0

Washington, D.C. - Despite shutting out No. 11 Georgetown in the second half and piecing together a couple of quality offensive chances in the final 45 minutes, the Seton Hall women's soccer team couldn't overcome an early deficit on the road as the Hoyas topped the Pirates, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.) led The Hall with three shots, including one shot on target. Senior goalkeeper Grace Gordon (Chester Springs, Pa.) collected nine saves and made a stop on a penalty kick.
How It Happened
Sophomore Rachel Gerrie (Littlelon, Colo.) had the Pirates' first shot of the game but the Hoyas put consistent stress on the Seton Hall back line early. Despite Gordon posting three saves in the first 11 minutes, Georgetown first just under 12 minutes in before tallying again moments later to take a 2-0 lead. After the Hoyas' third goal of the afternoon, Tavana had one of the Pirates' best chances of the contest as she found daylight outside the six-yard box, put a strike on the ball but it went wide of the goal.
After halftime, the Pirates' defense buckled down and limited the number of Georgetown's chances while creating a couple of solid opportunities of their own. The best one was when Gerrie sent a long pass outside the box to Tavana, who flicked it ahead to senior Julia Aronov (New Hyde Park, N.Y.). Aronov's left footed shot was bending towards the goal but it sailed wide.
News & Notes
The Pirates return to Owen T. Carroll Field on Thursday at 6 p.m. when they take on Creighton.Â
