
The Hall Falls Despite Strong Effort at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Sophomore Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) had 11 kills and junior Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) notched 20 assists and eight digs, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell in four sets at Butler, 3-1 (17-25, 25-16, 16-25, 19-25), on Friday.

The Hall falls to 4-4 in BIG EAST play, but still has only been swept once and that was against No. 18 Marquette. Â Tonight, the Pirates rallied to tie the match with a convincing 25-16 set-two victory, but they couldn't keep the momentum and ultimately lost in four sets.

Five Pirates collected at least six kills and were led by Walsh's 11. Sophomore Hanna Tulli (Collegeville, Pa.) was the most efficient of the group with seven kills, only one attack error, and a .500 attack percentage. She also had five digs and three blocks.

Junior Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) nearly had a double-double, finishing with a team-high assists to go with eight digs. Senior Jennifer Giron (Benecia, Calif.) had a team-high 15 digs.

The early goings of the opening set were close, but Butler was able to pull away late. The Bulldogs' defense limited the Pirates to just a .026 attack percentage in the opening stanza. A bad set by Butler gave The Hall a 13-10 lead, but the Bulldogs rallied. With the score tied at 16, Butler closed out the set with a 9-1 run to win, 25-17.

SET 2:
Trailing 11-7 in the second set, the Pirates went on a 13-2 run, spearheaded by four kills from Bianca Bucciarelli (Carate Brianza, Italy) to give them a commanding 20-13 advantage. Butler closed to within 22-16, but the Pirates finished out the set with the final three points consecutively, winning the set on back-to-back Bulldog attack errors. The Hall was much more efficient in the second set, recording a .364 attack percentage.

Down 14-10 in set three, back-to-back points by The Hall, including an ace by Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkey), cut its deficit to 14-12. Butler, however, responded with a 9-1 run to take a commanding 23-13 advantage in route to a 25-16 victory. The Hall was limited to a -.097 attack percentage in the third set.

A kill by Subasili put The Hall on top, 10-9, but Butler bounced back with a 6-1 run to grab a 15-11 advantage. The Pirates bounced back with six of the next nine points, and a kill by Walsh cut the Bulldogs' lead to 18-17. Leading 19-18, Butler closed out the match with six of the final seven points.Â
