Newark, N.J. - The Seton Hall men's basketball team is concluding its home schedule Wednesday night with a big contest against the UConn Huskies, a game both teams are very eager to capture. The winner of Wednesday's bout will have the inside track on third place in the BIG EAST and the coveted No. 3 seed and 9 p.m. quarterfinal game in the BIG EAST Tournament. Seton Hall has not finished lower than third in the BIG EAST in the last six years; UConn is looking for its first top-three BIG EAST finish since 2009.
This matchup should be all about defense. The Huskies have the best scoring defense in the league at just 64.6 points per game allowed overall and 64.9 points per game allowed in conference games only. Seton Hall is not far behind, coming in fifth in overall scoring defense at 69.4 points per game and fourth in league-only scoring defense at 68.5 points per game. And the Pirates have turned the defense up a notch, allowing only 60.1 points per game in six February contests.
Prior to the contest, Seton Hall will honor its four seniors in a pregame ceremony, slated to begin at approximately 6:10 p.m. This is the first game of the season that Seton Hall is allowed to have fans, and those with tickets are encouraged to visit PruCenter.com/safety to learn more about the re-opening policies associated with coming to Wednesday night's game.
Wednesday's game will be nationally broadcast on FS1 with Joe Davis and Jim Jackson on the call. Dave Popkin slides over to do play-by-play and Joe DeSantis will handle color on the radio via AM970 The Answer, simulcast on XM385, the Pirate Sports Network and TuneIn.
