Storrs, Conn. - On Saturday, the Pirates will be greeted by an old foe, the Connecticut Huskies. The two teams were charter members of the BIG EAST Conference back in 1979 and played each other every regular season except for one year until 2013 when the Huskies decided to move away. Now UConn is back, and both teams are in the thick of a race for an NCAA Tournament bid.
The Pirates have enjoyed strong road success over the last two seasons, going 11-4 in BIG EAST games away from home. A win at Connecticut would be monumental for the program as it would count as another NET "Tier 1" victory, and it would be Seton Hall's first road win in the Constitution State since March 1, 1997, albeit the Pirates have only visited there nine times in the last 24 years.
Seton Hall will need to rely on its resurgent defense, which held Providence to just 43 points this past Wednesday. It was only the ninth time in Seton Hall history that the Pirates have held a BIG EAST opponent under 50. They don't necessarily need to keep UConn under 50, but keeping the Huskies under 70 would be prudent; The Hall has won its last 16 BIG EAST games when holding the opponent under 70.
Saturday's matchup will be nationally televised on FOX with Brian Custer and Jim Spanarkel on the call. Gary Cohen and Dave Popkin will hit the road and live broadcast Saturday's game on the radio via WMCA 570 AM, XM 385, the Pirate Sports Network and TuneIn.
