
DePaul Rallies Despite Career Night from Rachwal

CHICAGO, ILL. – Junior Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) recorded a career-high 14 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell in four sets at DePaul, 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 22-25, 22-25), on Saturday.

Rachwal had a team-best 14 kills to go with only three attack errors, a .407 attack percentage and two service aces. Senior Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) recorded her fifth double-double of the season with a match-high 34 assists to go with 12 digs.

SET 1:
Seton Hall charged out of the gate, scoring 11 of the first 15 points, and a service ace by Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) put it on top, 11-4. After DePaul scored two in a row to cut The Hall's lead to five, the Pirates scored four straight take a commanding 15-6 advantage and force a Blue Demons timeout. An ace by Elizabeth Sottung (Westfield, N.J.) gave the Pirates their largest lead of the set, 19-8, and they went on to handily defeat DePaul, 25-16.

The second set was a back-and-forth affair early, but DePaul assumed control late. With the score tied at 16, Seton Hall scored three straight points, and another kill by Wilkins put The Hall up, 19-16. The Blue Demons however, closed out the set with a 9-3 run to tie the match with a 25-22 set two victory.

Seton Hall led early in set three and a kill by Emilee Turner (Kaysville, Utah) put the Pirates up, 14-10. DePaul rallied however, with a 6-0 run to jump ahead and never trailed again. The Blue Demons went on to win, 25-22.Â

Trailing 16-11, The Hall went on a 9-2 run, and an ace by Eden Dolezal (La Porte, Ind.) put it in front, 20-19, in set four. Down 22-21, a kill by Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) tied the set at 22, but DePaul closed out the match with the final three points.

Seton Hall will return to action on Friday, Oct. 4 when it returns to Walsh Gymnasium for a BIG EAST Conference showdown against Providence. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
