
Chalk Leads Pirates to 10th Place Finish at Grandover

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) shot a 2-over-par, 74, in the final round to lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a 10th place finish at the Grandover Collegiate on Monday to complete the fall season.

Chalk used four birdies to fuel his final round and shoot 15 places up the individual scoreboard. For the tournament, he tied for 39th place with a 16-over-par, 75-83-74-232. UNCG's Nick Lyerly won the individual title at 3-under-par.

Collectively, Seton Hall shaved 10 strokes off its second-round score to finish with a 26-over-par, 314, on Monday. For the tournament, the Pirates finished 82 strokes over par with a 308-324-314-946. They entered the day tied with BIG EAST opponent Villanova for 10th place, but complete the tournament besting them by 11 strokes. Host UNCG claimed the team title at 12-over-par.

Freshman Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) logged an 8-over-par, 80, on Monday. He finished the tournament tied with Chalk atop the Pirate leaderboard with a 16-over-par, 75-77-80-232.

Peter Tyler Po (Nasipit Cebu City, Philippines) notched his second straight 10-over-par, 82, and finished the tournament with a 24-over-par, 76-82-82-240.

Rounding out the Pirates' team scoring, sophomore Hunter Ramee (Warren, Conn.) shot a respectable 6-over-par, 78, on Monday. For the three-round event, he was 26-over-par with an 82-82-78-242.

The Pirates had to play with only four golfers in rounds two and three after the withdrawal of sophomore Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.).

The Course:
Golf at Grandover is a public, PGA facility offering daily tee times, golf outings and golf tournaments, overnight golf packages as well as golf lessons and is located at The Grandover Resort. It features a practice area, Golf Pro Shop and two challenging 18-hole courses; The East Course and the West Course. Grandover was designed by David Graham and Gary Panks, world-renowned golf architects. It has been host of 2011, '14, '15 and '18 D III National Championship and will be host for the 2012 D1 Regional Championship.

Opened in March 1996, the East Course was designed by Gary Panks and David Graham. Many of the holes were designed to give a stadium-effect around them. The tree lined fairways provide a seasonal blaze of color offering our guests the feeling of being in a nature preserve in America's heartland of golf.

In addition to Seton Hall and host UNC Greensboro, the talented 13-team field also included: Appalachian State, Chattanooga, Duke, Elon, Louisiana-Monroe, Ohio, Penn State, Rutgers, VCU and Virginia Tech. BIG EAST opponent Villanova is also in the field.
