Nagai, Go Lead Pirates to 10th Place at Mountaineer

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Sophomore Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines) fired a 1-under-par, 71, in Tuesday's final round of the 2016 Mountaineer Intercollegiate to help lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a 10th place tie.

Nagai had a team-best five birdies on the round and completes the tournament tied for 39th place with a 9-over-par, 80-74-71-225. Today's performance is Nagai's fifth sub-par round in 11 rounds so far this fall.

Collectively, Seton Hall saved its best effort for round three. The Pirates fired a 7-over-par, 295, the fifth-best round of the field on the day. The Hall finished the three-round event with a 31-over-par, 303-297-295-895 to tie Memphis for 10th place. Arkansas won the team title and was the only team to shoot under par for the tournament at 6-undeer-par.

Senior Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) shot an even-par, 72, on Tuesday, and again finished as the top Pirate performer for the tournament. Go tied for fifth overall among 78 individual golfers with a stellar 1-under-par, 69-74-72-215. He finished five strokes behind the individual champion, Miami's Patrick Flavin. This is the ninth straight tournament for Go registering the Pirates' low score.Â

For Go, this is his third sub-par tournament in four events this fall and the 11th of his historic career at Seton Hall. With this effort, he passes Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Famer Eugene Smith for most career sub-par tournaments. It's also his 21st career top-10 finish, which ties Chris Reeves for the most in Seton Hall history. His 12 top-5 finishes is tied for second-most.

Freshman Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) shot a 5-over-par, 77, on Tuesday to finish tied with Nagai for 39th place overall. For the two-day event, the Pirate newcomer was 9-over-par with a 73-75-77-225.Â

Sophomore Chris Yeom (Flushing, N.Y.) finished the Mountaineer Intercollegiate with two solid rounds. Yeom had a 2-over-par, 74, in round two, and was only one stroke worse, at 3-over-par, in round three. For the tournament, he tied for 56th place overall with a 14-over-par, 81-74-75-230.Â

Junior Linus Yip (Sydney, Australia) rounded out the Pirates' scoring for the tournament. He logged a 32-over-par, 83-78-87-248.

In addition to Seton Hall and host West Virginia, the talented field was comprised of 12 other teams including:  Akron, Arkansas, Arkansas State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, East Carolina, James Madison, Marshall, Memphis, Miami (Ohio), Mississippi State and Toledo. Other than Seton Hall, there are no BIG EAST schools in the field.
