DADE CITY, FLA. - The Seton Hall men's golf team edged Florida Atlantic in the second and final round of the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play at the Lake Jovita Golf Course on Tuesday.
Originally scheduled for a three-round event, the event was shorted to two rounds due to rain. With the victory over Florida Atlantic, Seton Hall tied for fifth place in the event.
The fourth-seeded Pirates faced eighth-seeded Florida Atlantic and tied them 3-3, but won the tie-breaker due to having more holes won. Sophomore Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines was the lone Pirate to win both of his matches in the event. Junior Ryan Snouffer (Sparta, N.J.) and sophomore Kevin O'Brien (Wexford, Pa.) also took home victories in round two.
Go defeated Florida Atlantic's Cody Christensen, 4&3, and just like in his first round match, he never trailed. The sophomore took an early lead on the second hole of the match and never looked back, increasing his lead to as many as five holes. Go won by four holes with three to play.
Snouffer got in the win column after a loss in round one. The junior defeated Derron Peyton in convincing fashion, 6&5, in round two. Snouffer won the first three holes and the rout was on. By winning holes 7-9 and 13, he ensured that the final five holes didn't need to be played.
O'Brien defeated FAU's Michael Perez, 4&2, for Seton Hall's third match victory of round two.
JT Harper (Pebble Beach, Calif.) dropped a 4&3 match to Connor O'Rourke. David Cha (Carrollton, Texas) fell to P. Gerboles-Parrilla, 6&4, and Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.) lost a tight match, 2&1, to Florida Atlantic's Caleb Sibley.
The Pirates will return to the links in two weeks for their first tournament-style event of the spring, the Neville Kovacs Group Intercollegiate, Feb. 22-24, in Goodyear, Ariz.
