STATE COLLEGE, PA. - Freshman Christiana Rutkowski (Middletown, N.J.) placed 77th and senior Mary Migton (Ledgewood, N.J.) finished 94th in a field of 207 competitors at the 6K NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship on Friday, leading a 25th-place effort for the Seton Hall women's cross country team.
Rutkowski has entrenched herself atop the Pirates' lineup and led the team for the eighth time in as many races with a time of 22:21. The freshman helped The Hall rank ahead of a group of squads that included Robert Morris, UMES, Marshall and NJIT and would have been the top finisher for seven other teams.
Migton crossed 12 seconds later to give SHU more top-100 finishers than Towson, Lafayette, Saint Joseph's (Pa.), Saint Francis (Pa.) and Loyola (Md.) in addition to the teams above.
Sophomore Desyre Blackburn (Aloha, Ore.) ranked third on the squad with a final mark of 24:44 while a pair of freshmen Bailey Seach (Winston Salem, N.C.) (26:01) and Emily Curran (Wakefield, Mass.) (26:25) continued to contribute in their debut seasons, picking up the other two scoring times.
BIG EAST champion Katrina Coogan claimed first to lead Georgetown to another team title.
The Pirates head to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx next Saturday, November 22 to close the 2014 season at the ECAC Championships.
