CHICAGO, ILL. - Sophomore Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) had a match-high 25 digs as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team swept DePaul, 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-7) on Friday for its 12th straight victory.
Senior Stacey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) recorded her team-leading 14th double-double of the season with a match-high 13 kills to go with 10 digs. Her sister, Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.), had a match-high 35 assists, seven kills and seven digs.
Seton Hall (18-3, 8-0) dominated from the get-go. DePaul won the first point of the match, but it was their last lead of the first set. The Pirates went on a 6-1 run to take a 7-2 lead. A kill by Molly Grammer (Center Valley, Pa.) expanded the Pirates advantage to 12-4. An ace by Amanda Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis.) gave the Pirates a 13 point lead at 23-10. Stacey Manthorpe's kill put Seton Hall in set point and blocks by Stacey and Ashani Rubin (Philadelphia, Pa.) ended the set, 25-12, in the Pirates' favor.
Set two was clearly the closest of the brief match with 13 ties and three lead changes. Trailing 20-18, Seton Hall scored four straight points to take a late lead, 22-20. A DePaul attack error put Seton Hall in set point, 24-22, and a Stacey Manthorpe kill won set two for the Pirates, 25-22. Schroeder led The Hall with four kills in set two.
Losing a close set two took the air out of the sails of the Blue Demons as the Pirates dominated set three. Seton Hall scored the first four points of the set and jumped out to a commanding 16-4 lead. An ace by Sarah Kenneweg (Poolesville, Md.) extended the advantage to 20-5 and the rout was on. The Pirates downed DePaul, 25-7, in set three to sweep the match. Seton Hall recorded an astonishing .517 attack percentage in the defining set, recording 17 kills and just two attack errors. Stacey Manthorpe had six of her 13 kills in set three alone.
Seton Hall's 12-match win streak equals its longest since 2012. The last time Seton Hall has won 13 straight matches, its longest win streak ever, was during the 1994 season.
Seton Hall will return to action tomorrow evening as it travels to Marquette for a match that will be produced by the BIG EAST Digital Network. The broadcast will be available free of charge on Fox Sports Go. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
