FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Freshman Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) became only the 14th player in Seton Hall men's golf history to shoot under par for a tournament. The freshman finished the 2013 Doc Gimmler at 1-under-par to lead the Pirates to an 11th place team finish.
Go fired an even-par, 70, in Sunday's final round to finish in a 10th place tie among 76 individual golfers with a 1-under-par, 72-67-70-209. Go was one of 13 golfers to finish under par with Yale's Joe Willis winning the individual title at 11-under-par.
Collectively, Seton Hall finished the tournament at 22-over-par with a 293-280-289-862, 42 strokes behind the team champion, Yale.
Despite the 11th place finish, the performance was historic for the Pirates. Seton Hall's three-round total of 862 is the second-best par-70 performance in Pirates' history. Furthermore, their second round score of 280 is the lowest single-round score on a par-70 course ever for a Seton Hall foursome.
The remaining four Pirates, as well as Gary Dunne (Wickow, (Ireland) competing as an individual, all finished within five strokes of each other. Junior Derrick Kim (New City, N.Y.) was the second-best Pirate performer this weekend. He finished in a tie for 50th place overall with an 8-over-par, 74-70-74-218.
Sophomore David Cha (Carrollton, Texas) finished one stroke behind Kim with a 9-over-par, 71-74-74-219 to tie for 53rd place. JT Harper (Pebble Beach, Calif.) was only one stroke behind Cha at 10-over-par with a 76-72-72-220.
Sophomore Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.) rebounded from a tough first round to put up respectable numbers in round two and three. He finished at 12-over-par with a 78-71-73-222. Dunne finished one stroke behind Wilson at 13-over-par with a 74-75-74-223.
Seton Hall will return to the links for three rounds of golf at the Hartford Hawks Invitational beginning Monday, Sept. 23.
