BALTIMORE, MD. - Freshmen Melody Bush (Guelph, Ontario) and Cece Henry (St. Charles, Mo.) joined senior Kerrie Kolackovsky (Franklin Square, N.Y.) in recording individual victories on Saturday as the Seton Hall swimming & diving squad hit the pool at Loyola University in Baltimore for a quad meet that also included Drexel and Lafayette.
Bush was the star of the day as she completed her program with wins in each one of her three individual races, finishing the meet as the only competitor, regardless of gender, to record three victories.
She first raced her way to a win in the 200-freestyle, clocking a time of 1:55.18. Later, Bush paced the field in the 200-backstroke; reaching the wall in 2:06.83 to lead a pair of Pirates in the top-five as classmate Kelsey Buonaiuto (Miller Place, N.Y.) placed fifth with a time of 2:12.74.
Her final victory came in the 500-freestyle as she registered a 5:11.94 to earn first-place points by a margin of over three seconds. Teammate Cora Meehan (Noblesville, Ind.) turned in a fifth-place time in the event (5:22.44).
Saturday's performance continued a torrid run for Bush through her first three collegiate appearances as the freshman has now placed first in seven of her eight individual swims. She previously posted two wins in a blowout team victory over Rider and in her SHU debut, came in first in two of three events against Montclair State.
In the lone race she did not win, Bush was edged in the 100-freestyle by Kolackovsky, the Seton Hall record holder in the event.
Kolackovsky added her fifth win of the young season on Saturday, out-pacing the 200-IM field with a 2:10.24 effort. Henry finished fourth in the event, reaching the wall in 2:13.74.
After picking up her first career win in the 200-fly last time out against the Broncs, Henry came up with another victory in the event as she posted a time of 2:11.36 on Saturday to rank first among 14 swimmers. Fellow freshman Tessa Lindner (Sun Prairie, Wisc.) finished fourth with a time of 2:15.67 and also placed fourth after posting a team-best 59.71 mark in the 100-fly.
The Pirates were also led by Kolackovsky in both the 100 and 200-breaststroke events as the senior ranked as the runner-up on both occasions. In the 100-breast, she was one of two SHU swimmers to crack the top-five as sophomore Megan Mallon (Glen Mills, Pa.) finished fifth.
From the diving board, sophomore Gabby Signorelli (Massapequa, N.Y.) continued to impress, delivering a six-dive score of 249.20 from the three-meter board to rank second among 12 divers. From one-meter, Signorelli placed third while diving captain Katie Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) came in at the fifth spot.
SHU posted three more top-five finishes in the pool as freshman Erica Naumann (Middletown, Conn.) led the way with a fourth-place time of 10:59.51 in the 1,000-free after the Pirates landed two relay squads in the top-five of the 200-medley race.
Bush, Kolackovsky and Mallon combined with senior Kelly Markwell (Old Bridge, N.J.) to finish second (1:48.56), less than a second off the winning pace and Buonaiuto and Lindner teamed with fellow underclassmen Annie Bucca (New Brunswick, N.J.) and Rae Congdon (Ottawa, Ontario) to place fifth (1:51.15).
In team competition, SHU outscored Lafayette, 194-104, to earn its third victory of the season but fell to Drexel (164-136) and hosts Loyola (MD) (169-131).
Both swimming and diving squads will be back in action next Saturday, November 2 when they travel to Providence, R.I. to take on the Friars in a heads up BIG EAST battle.
Start-time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
