PROVIDENCE, R.I. - With the top time in 11 of 16 events, the Seton Hall women's swimming & diving team cruised to its fifth dual meet victory of the season, downing BIG EAST rival Providence on the road, 176-119.
Senior Kerrie Kolackovsky (Franklin Square, N.Y.) led the way with three individual wins, ranking first among six Pirates who collected first-place times on the day. Kolackovsky swept the breaststroke events with relative ease, outpacing PC's top performer by over four seconds with a 1:12.86 in the 100-meter breaststroke and later recorded a 2:38.85 in the 200-meter race, nearly 11 seconds faster than the closest Friar.
On each occasion, her stiffest competition came from teammate Megan Mallon (Glen Mills, Pa.) who finished as the runner-up in both races.
Kolackovsky's other victory came by virtue of a 27.06 time in the 50-meter freestyle as she was joined in the top-four of the event by Gabi Levine (Garwood, N.J.) and Mallon who finished third and fourth respectively.
Levine also picked up a win on the day, topping the 100-meter backstroke field with a final mark of 1:08.06 that led an all-SHU top-three in the race. Freshman Kelsey Buonaiuto (Miller Place, N.Y.) placed second and sophomore Cora Meehan (Noblesville, Ind.) finished third.
Another freshman in Cece Henry (St. Charles, Mo.) continued what has been a strong start to her debut campaign by joining Kolackovsky in posting multiple wins. Henry raced to a 200-meter butterfly victory in 2:26.14, touching the wall; slightly more three seconds ahead of classmate Tessa Lindner (Sun Prairie, Wisc.) in second.
Henry (2:28.99) and Lindner (2:31.61) also recorded the fastest two times in the women's 200-meter individual medley event while Buonaiuto made it a trio of SHU freshmen in the top-three with a 2:31.69 effort.
Lindner was not without a win of her own as she was the top performer in the 100-meter fly. Levine finished second and Henry clocked in third, all within one second of one another.
Senior Kate Dwyer (Freehold, N.J.) made it five individual swimming victors for the Pirates by picking up her first win of the season as part of yet another all-Seton Hall top-three in the 400-meter freestyle. Dwyer's time of 4:40.02 was more than nine seconds better than the top PC competitor and sophomores Leah Mayer (London, Ontario) and Katie Adams (Linwood, N.J.) contributed second and third-place points as well.
Seton Hall also dominated diving competition as sophomore Gabby Signorelli (Massapequa, N.Y.) swept both events, turning in a top score of 262.95 on the day. Senior Katie Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) placed second in both events, giving The Hall a clear advantage.
A 200-meter medley relay victory got it all started for SHU as reigning SHUPirates.com Athlete of the Week Melody Bush (Guelph, Ontario) teamed with Mallon, Lindner and sophomore Rae Congdon (Ottawa, Ontario) to record a time of 2:02.59.
With the win, the Pirates improve to 4-2 on the young season. The team will return to action on Friday, November 8 on the first of two days at a quad meet at Rutgers that also features Georgetown and Villanova.
