
Volleyball Shuts Out Princeton, 3-0

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's volleyball team improved to 9-1 on the young season with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-20) shutout of Princeton, Wednesday night at Walsh Gym.
Sophomore Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) logged a double-double with a team-high 25 assists to go with 10 digs. The setter narrowly missed a triple-double, finishing with eight kills and six blocks in an outstanding all-around effort.
Libero Alyssa Warren (Joliet, Ill.) led the Pirates with 20 digs in a strong defensive match.
Sophomore Simona Sekulova (Auckland, New Zealand) came off the bench to lead the Pirates with 10 kills and a .450 attack percentage.
Stacey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) and freshman Molly Grammer (Center Valley, Pa.) also had strong matches for the Pirates. Stacey almost notched a double-double with nine kills and nine digs. Grammer, playing in her first career match at Walsh Gym also recorded nine kills.
The first set was evenly matched until the Pirates reeled off five straight points with the score tied at 12 to give themselves some breathing room. However, Princeton responded with five straight points of their own to tie the game at 17. With the set tied at 19, Seton Hall scored the final six points to go up, 1-0.
Seton Hall never trailed in the second set. The Pirates jumped out to a 3-0 lead and a kill by Sekulova off a set from Olivia Trudeau (Shell Beach, Calif.) gave them their largest lead of the set, eight points at 19-11. Seton Hall never looked back and Grammer's kill ended the second stanza, 25-19, to put the Pirates in a commanding 2-0 set lead.
The Pirates dominated set three and held a 14-6 lead before Princeton reeled off six straight points to cut the lead to 14-12. Seton Hall would regroup however, and prevent the Tigers from taking the lead en route to a 25-20 third set victory.
Princeton (2-4) was led by Nicole Kincade who finished with 14 kills. Ginny Willis notched 30 assists.
Seton Hall will return to Walsh Gym this weekend when it hosts the Seton Hall Invitational, Friday and Saturday. The Pirates will face Stony Brook at 7:00 pm on Friday, and Morgan State at 3:00 pm on Saturday.
