
Ohio State Hands VB First Loss

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Seton Hall volleyball team fell to Ohio State, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-14), on day two of the Maryland Invitational. The Pirates suffer their first loss of the year and are now 3-1 on the year.
Sophomore Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) had 19 assists and seven digs, snapping a 13-match double-double streak. Sophomore Simona Sekulova (Aukland, New Zealand) led the offense with seven kills and a .600 attack percentage.
The squads alternated the first 14 points of the opening set until Seton Hall finally took its first lead of the game at 8-7. The Pirates led by as many as three points on four occasions, but could not gain further separation. Down 22-20, Ohio State (4-1) rallied with five straight points to claim the set.
Set two was also extremely competitive, but the Buckeyes remained slightly in front. A Mari Hole kill gave Ohio State a 20-16 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish.
In the third, OSU dominated from the start and cruised to a 25-14 set-win to complete the sweep.
The Pirates close out the tournament tonight at 5:00 p.m. against Binghamton.
