SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall men's soccer team suffered a 7-3 loss to Princeton on Tuesday night to wrap up non-conference play. The Pirates are now 4-5-2 on the year.
The Tigers (2-6-1) opened up the scoring in the seventh minute off of a David Dubow goal. Mark Linville had a long throw in from the right side of Princeton's offensive zone, and Dubow headed the ball into the net for his first goal of the season.
Twelve minutes later a Myles McGinley corner kick found Patrick O'Neil, who fed Dubow from 15 yards out to give Princeton a 2-0 advantage.
Antoine Hoppenot and Matt Sanner provided insurance goals in the 25th and 30th minute, respectively before SHU finally got on the scoreboard before the half.
Sophomore Anthony Reichwaldt (Lincoln, Neb.), playing in just his second game as a forward after starting the first five games in goal, scored his first career goal off of a Kai Greene (South Orange, N.J.) free kick from just outside of the box. The initial shot by Reichwaldt from the set piece was blocked, but the rebound went straight back to him and fired into the right slot in the 33rd minute.
Sanner and Hoppenot struck again in the second half to give Princeton a commanding 6-1 cushion to effectively end any threat of a comeback.
However, Reichwaldt and the Pirates were not finished as a long seam pass to Jason Wellington (West Palm Beach, Fla.) down the right side left him alone with the goalkeeper. Wellington rifled a shot from the inside the box for his first career goal.
Zach Wyzgoski finished the scoring for the Tigers in the 88th minute after a long pass by Andrew Menendez hit Manny Sardinha, who one-touched it to Wyzgoski to push the margin to 7-2.
Freshman Andrew LoManto (Massepequa Park, N.Y.) got in on the action in the final minute after another long pass downfield from Damian Bziukiewicz (East Rutherford, N.J.) led to the final goal of the game.
The Pirates will take on Pittsburgh on the road on Saturday, October 8, at 7:00 p.m.
