Samuel D’Ambola, M.D.

An individual State Foil Champion and a member of the Metropolitan State Championship Fencing Team while at Barringer High School, Dr. Samuel D’Ambola was a member of Seton Hall’s undefeated fencing team that won 68 straight matches before WWII ended competition. He was also a member of the team that won the Eastern Intercollegiate Championship in 1942. He went on to coach the Essex Catholic High School fencing team, leading it to wins in nine State Championships, eight Cetrulo Tournaments, and two Metropolitan Championships. He remained active in fencing, even after retiring from coaching, by winning the state foils title of the Amateur Fencing League of America.
