Owen T. Carroll

Owen Carroll was the first great Seton Hall baseball head coach in the program’s illustrious history. Named to the position in 1948, he guided the Pirates to winning seasons in 22 of his 25 years on the job, accumulating a career 341 victories. In 1964, his Pirates won a then-program record 25 games and won the NCAA District II Championship, qualifying for the College World Series for the first time in team history. Carroll guided the Pirates back to the College World Series in 1971 before retiring a year later. Prior to joining Seton Hall, Carroll had a 10-year career as a Major League pitcher, once finishing 20th in the MVP voting in 1928. Today, Seton Hall’s baseball field is named Owen T. Carroll Field.
