New Providence, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team won the doubles point and took No. 1 singles against BIG EAST foe Villanova, but the Wildcats rallied for a 4-3 win over the Pirates Saturday at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness.
This one hurts because it was right there," said Seton Hall head coach James Enzler. "I'm proud of our girls for coming out strong and winning the doubles point and kudos to Kira for getting a strong win at No. 1 in singles. Give credit to Villanova for responding strong when it got to singles, particularly at the 4-6 spot. All we can do is learn what we need to do better and make sure we take advantage if we get the opportunity to play them in the [BIG EAST] tournament.
The Pirates are surging in their doubles play and picked up their first doubles point over Villanova since 2022. Kira Farrakhova and Isabelle May won at No. 2 with a convincing 6-2 victory over Olivia Corcoran and Jenna Stevens. And the sophomore pairing of Rachel Benoualid and Ellie Coe pushed past Miriam Gondorova and Lauren Monti, 6-3.
Farrakhova earned her third spring singles win and 11th overall by beating Corcoran in the No. 1 spot, 6-7(5), 6-3, 1-0(5).
Seton Hall will visit The First State next weekend, taking on the University of Delaware in Wilmington, Del., on Friday and Delaware State in Dover, Del., on Saturday.
